Domain: Braeval

The Braeval distillery was founded by Seagram in 1973 for use in the flagship blend Chivas Regal. Initially named Braes of Glenlivet, the name was changed in 1995 to allow the Glenlivet distillery exclusive use of the title. The latter was bought by Seagram in 1977 and the owner later decided to keep the name Glenlivet for the distillery that used its brand name as a single malt rather than for a distillery whose malt was used for blending. When it was first founded, it was one of the most modern distilleries in Scotland, and it has remained so over the years, with very advanced automation. In fact, from 1997, the distillery only required one person to run it. Eventually, in 2000, Seagram was bought by Pernod Ricard. The drinks giant mothballed four distilleries in 2002, including the newly acquired Braeval. It was only in 2008 that production was relaunched to respond to a renewed demand for whisky.
