Cuvée presentation

A small batch of Braeval, distilled in 1998 and bottled in 2011 by Ian Macleod. Ian Macleod & Company Ltd was founded in 1933 by Leonard Russell Senior. In 1963, the Russell family acquired it, with Peter Russell at the head. Ian Macleod bottles blends, but their stocks also include independent bottlings such as the renowned Chieftain’s – a single-cask range that takes advantage of the stocks accumulated by Leonard Russell Senior when he opened his brokerage in 1936. The company became Ian Macleod Distillers Ltd in 2003 at the same time they acquired Glengoyne. They then acquired Tamdhu in 2011 and Rosebank in 2017. A limited edition of 800 bottles.

The distillery Braeval

The Braeval distillery was founded by Seagram in 1973 for use in the flagship blend Chivas Regal. Initially named Braes of Glenlivet, the name was changed in 1995 to allow the Glenlivet distillery exclusive use of the title. The latter was bought by Seagram in 1977 and the owner later decided to keep the name Glenlivet for the distillery that used its brand name as a single malt rather than for a distillery whose malt was used for blending. When it was first founded, it was one of the most modern distilleries in Scotland, and it has remained so over the years, with very advanced automation. In fact, from 1997, the distillery only required one person to run it. Eventually, in 2000, Seagram was bought by Pernod Ricard. The drinks giant mothballed four distilleries in 2002, including the newly acquired Braeval. It was only in 2008 that production was relaunched to respond to a renewed demand for whisky.
