Distillation of red wine bottled by Capovilla for the 70th anniversary of Velier in 2017. Velier was founded in Genoa by Casimir Chaix in 1947. It was originally a small, family-run business specializing in the import and distribution of wine and spirits. Luca Gargano, a former representative for Saint James and serious rum collector and enthusiast, bought the business in 1986 and began bottling whisky first in 1992 and then rum in 1996. After his legendary bottlings of Demerara rum (Guyana) and Caroni (Trinidad), Gargano extended his exploration of Caribbean rum into other territories, including Barbados, Jamaica, Haiti and Marie-Galante. Rums selected by Velier are only ever aged in a tropical climate, which explains both their concentration and the high angels’ share. They are generally bottled at cask strength or just below.

The distillery Capovilla

Capovilla is known around the world for being one of the finest distilleries, whose eaux-de-vie are unrivalled. The distiller, a former mechanic by trade, fell in love with fruits, particularly the rarest and most captivating varieties. So over the years he set off in search of the most surprising blends across the Alps, Italy, France and Romania. From sloe to peaches, through to morello cherries, pears, apricots and many others, the distiller explores all the facets of fruit. His aim is to extract pure aromas in order to produce rich and fragranced alcohol. Each fruit ripens naturally and is picked at the moment when the flavours and sugars reach a perfect balance. The juices are distilled using traditional stills then are aged in casks for many years before being bottled.
