To celebrate their 90th anniversary, Nikka Whisky released an exceptional limited edition range, “The Nikka Nine Decades”.
Reflecting the heritage of Nikka Whisky, this limited edition is a precise blend of whiskies from the nine decades that have shaped the history of the Japanese house, from 1940 to 2020. This blended whisky is made up of 50 meticulously selected whiskies from across the six Nikka Whisky distilleries. Scotch whiskies from the Ben Nevis distillery, the oldest malt reserves from iconic distilleries Yoichi and Miyagikyo, new grain whiskies from the Moji and Satsumatsukasa distilleries, as well as expressions from the Coffey pot still at the Miyagikyo distillery and the old Nishinomiya distillery, have come together to create this exceptional anniversary edition. This botttle is signed by Hiromi Osaki, Chief Blender and Kazutomo Tamesada, Nikka Whisky CEO.

In order to make this lot even more special, Thierry Bénitah has added a bottle from his personal collection. This is a single cask from the exclusive Miyagikyo distillery that he was able to acquire in Japan during his first visit to Nikka in the late 1990s. This 20 Year Old was bottled in the legendary and iconic form from Nikka From the Barrel at 58%. It commemorates a double anniversary: 90 years of Nikka and 20 years of the Whisky Live Paris. It also perfectly illustrates the theme of La Maison du Whisky's Creations Catalgoue: Foundations.

The distillery Nikka Whisky

Nikka's founder Masataka Taketsuru is considered the father of Japanese whisky. After completing studies in chemistry, he was recruited by the Settsu Shuzo company, who sent him to Scotland in 1918 to complete his apprenticeship. There he developed a passion for whisky and decided to dedicate his life to it. In 1934, he built Yoichi, his first distillery, on the island of Hokkaido. Its growing success enabled him to establish a second distillery in 1969, near Sendai, named Miyagikyo. It is from the single malts of these two distilleries that the Nikka Whisky group produces its entire range of Japanese whiskies.
