Donated by Hampden Estate
This exceptional lot is made up of 2 unique and previously unreleased magnums from the Hampden Estate distillery: New Beginnings and The Maverick. These bottlings were designed to mark two special events: the wedding of Christelle Harris – a member of the distillery owners’ family – and Matthew Hann in June 2023, and the birth of their son Maverick in May 2024.
These bottlings include two blends of different marks and vintages:
New Beginnings : 70% OWH 2014 and 30% <>H 2017.
The Maverick : 50% HGML 2018, 40% LFCH 2020 and 10% C<>H 2021.
Founded in 1753 in the Trelawny region in the north-west of the island, Hampden Estate is one of the oldest distilleries in Jamaica. When the Hussey family bought it in 2009, a new chapter was opened in its history. Formerly exported in bulk, and mainly to enrich blended rums for European merchants, Hampden distillates are also now matured in the cellars of the distillery, allowing Hampden to fully develop its own unique identity.
Renowned for its intense and unmatched aromatic profile, Hampden remains loyal to traditional Jamaican methods: long fermentation periods using indigenous yeasts and double distillation in a double distillation pot still. These ancient techniques produce powerful and authentic rums, a favourite with connoisseurs all over the world.
Since 2017, thanks to their real ambitions for international distribution, Hampden Estate established itself as one of the biggest names in contemporary rum, offering rare and greatly sought-after expressions which captivate judicious connoisseurs.
The distillery Hampden
Rum, Jamaica. Distillery operational. Owner: Everglades Farms Ltd.
Independent & family-ownedKnown primarily in the rum, perfume and food industries, Hampden began to move out of the shadows in 2009 when the Jamaican government decided to disinvest from the national Jamaica Sugar Company and auctioned off its assets. The family-owned company Everglades Farms Ltd (owned by the Hussey family) secured the lot and became the owner of this gem which is now considered the alter ego of the Scottish distillery Ardbeg. This link with Scotland is no coincidence. Hampden Estate was bought in 1748 by Robert Stirling, who had left Perthshire (Scotland) in 1742. The Hussey family sells two expressions of its rum, including an Overproof which is particularly well-known in the bar and HORECA segment. But it was in 2017, when family-owned Italian (Velier) and French (LMDW) companies began distributing the first old rums, that Hampden really took off, rising to the ranks of the finest rums currently on the market.
