Cuvée presentation

“This “pre-phylloxera” cognac was inherited from my maternal great-aunt. According to her, this cognac was distilled in 1853 at her estate, Chateau de Ars, located in Petite Champagne. Six bottles were later offered to the grandchildren, a precious inheritance. When we discovered this bottle, it was perfectly preserved by several layers of newspaper, a common technique at the time. The estimated bottling date corresponds to the publication of these newspapers, which dates back to 1922.
To protect this little treasure, my great-aunt used to move the bottles from one place to another on the property several times a year using a grape-harvesting bucket. The bottle was entrusted to sworn professionals who are capable of tasting and analyzing the oldest cognacs, and they were able to conclude that the organoleptic qualities correspond exactly to the profile of the eaux-de-vie of the region before the phylloxera crisis. After the expertise, this bottle, number 4, was sealed by the former President of the Cognac Brokers’’ Union.” Thibault Mauxion
The cognac bottle comes with a custom-designed oak wood gift box that is both elegant and sturdy. The box is lined with cozy vegan leather and features a slate introducing the story of the bottle by Thibault and stone support on the inside to keep the bottle secure. The bottle is accompanied by a craft blown glass that is both functional and beautiful. The official cognac certificate that comes with the bottle is a testament to its authenticity and quality.
Last but not least, the buyer will receive an invitation letter to Mauxion Domain in Houlette. The VIP visit will include a private tasting of the finest cognacs and the possibility to experience the distillation process with Amaury Mauxion, the Master Distiller. More details about the visit will be provided later. This is a unique opportunity to experience the art of cognac-making firsthand and to taste some of the best cognacs in the world.

The distillery Mauxion

Since the beginning of the XVIII century, Antoine Mauxion was the first of the family to produce eau de vie. After researches from Thibault Mauxion's grand mother we found an authentic document back from 1741, showing that Antoine Mauxion was already « bouilleur de cru » and not « négociant ». Mauxion ancestors used to put barrels on horses and take them to cognac companies. They would shake hands if they wanted to buy, there was no contract. Today, the 13th generation Thibault and Amaury maintain their traditions alive, taking care of their 60 hectares of vineyards, distillery and cellar. Mauxion Selection range offers unblended cognac bottled at cask strength, sourced from the private cellars of local families in the 6 estates of Cognac region. Each bottle is numbered and certified, helping to preserve the story of each producer, vineyard and history in a way that cannot happen when the spirit is sold to large brands. The cognacs come in various sized artisan-designed bottles. An authentic experience for spirit enthusiasts.
