Caraîbes, Trinidad. Distillerie fermée, site démantelé.

En 1975, sous la pression nationale, le gouvernement de Trinidad nationalise de nombreuses sociétés dont Tate & Lyle, géant anglais de l'exploitation sucrière et propriétaire de Caroni Ltd depuis 1937. Mais le contexte économique très concurrentiel provoque la fermeture des sucreries de l'île et l'effondrement de la production de mélasse nécessaire à la production de rhum. En 2001, le gouvernement cède ses parts de Rum Distillers Ltd (Caroni) à Angostura et ferme la distillerie en 2002. Caroni Ltd sera définitivement liquidée le 31 juillet 2003. En Octobre 2004, Luca Gargano, PDG de la société italienne de distribution de spiritueux Velier, passionné de rhum et de photographie, se rend à Trinidad afin d'y effectuer un repérage pour un futur reportage. Il y trouve un site à l'abandon et au sein des chais, une multitude de barriques dont certaines distillées en 1974. L'histoire de Caroni débute en 2005 et la distillerie entre directement dans la légende.
