Chantal Comte’‘s family moved to the Antilles in 1964 and Chantal began working as a bottler in the mid-1980s—a still uncommon activity for rum at the time—at the behest of André Depaz, owner of the Montagne Pelée plantation, and Paul Hayot, Depaz’‘ distiller. In those days, rhum agricole was less popular and the distillery had huge stocks. Comte visited distilleries and selected casks she deemed worthy of joining the range, often bottled at cask strength.
